Stok Kangri Base Camp Trek in Ladakh

Stok Kangri is the second highest peak of the world at an altitude of 6153 meters. Trekking this peak requires advanced mountaineering equipment and permission. However, respiratory problem at such an altitude may arise. So most of the visitors prefer trek up to Stok Kangri Base Camp.

Leh offers spots for Initial trek with varying destinations of scenic beauty and monasteries at Alchi and Khardung covering at altitude of 3,350 meters. Nex phase of trek involves visits to Thiksey Monastery and gorge at Sumdo 18 km away from Leh covering an altitutde of 3,800 meters. From Sumdo, the next destination is Shang Phu Valley at an altitude of 4,365 meters. Third phase of trek takes you to Shang La at an altitude of 4,960 meters. New destination through trekking is Matho La at an altitude of 4,965 meters. From here, we move on to Stok Kangri Base Camp at an altitude of 4,980 meters after 4 to 5 hours of trekking. Stok Kangri base camp is a glassy area along the stream of melt water from Siachen Glacier in the East. There is an advance base camp at 5,400 meters from the sea level which is not allowed to be visited.
