When someone speaks about Khajuraho, it is not just a group of monuments of Hindu and Jain temples located inMadhya Pradesh – its more than just this! It is something which is called the birthplace of KamaSutra in India and something which is known for its erotic art sculptures. With around 20 temples of 10th and 11th century, it’s something majestic to see around.

Every year in the months of February/March dance festival is organised and one can hear the Indian Cinema Icon and Godfather Amitabh Bachchan echoing in the light and sound show which resounds in the western side of the Temples.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site Khajuraho is not just a famous tourist site but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This popular archaeological site is well known for its well sculpted/carved out temples. The temples are basically dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Jain patriarchs. Around 385 miles from New Delhi, these are the one of the best places to visit.

Dance and Festival Show The name “ Khajuraho” has been taken from a plant fruit “ Khajur” which is prominent in this area. And so a perfect combination of when there is abundance of these fruits in the area as well as slight winters swing in – the International Dance Festival is celebrated here. Focussed on Indian Dance Patterns – Kathakali and Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kuchipuddi, Manipuri make the most of it. Filled with dance, music and culture aura of Madhya Pradesh, this is one of the most awaited dance festivals of India. It is accompanied by Art n Craft festival.

Light and Sound Show Light and Sound Show which is narrated by Amitabh Bachchan, is held every evening at the western group of temples 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. (time is liable to change). It’s worth the watch!

Where to Stay Some of the finest hotels including 5tstar hotels are there. There are other starred hotels too which are also good in their services. In short, one can easily find accommodation as it suits their pocket (except the dance festival where It’s good to have pre – booking).

How to Reach Khajuraho By Air - By air one can reach through major airports of India like Mumbai, New Delhi, Varanasi, Allahbad and Bhopal. All these cities have direct flights to Khajuraho.

By Train- Reaching Khajuraho by train is one of the easiest modes. However, there are very less direct trains to Khajuraho. You can find direct trains from New Delhi, Allahbad and Bhopal. From other cities there are indirect trains.

By Bus - Bus connectivity to Khajuraho Temples is limited and there are limited companies which run air – conditioned Volvo buses to reach the destination.

By Road - One can reach Khajuraho Temples by road from near – by destinations like Bhopal and Varanasi.
