Taj Mahal Location

Taj Mahal, the wondrous marble mausoleum built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his chief consort in her memory,is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It has also been enlisted as one of the World Heritage Sites under UNESCO for preserving the unique Mughal architecture and culture. Taj Mahal is one of the most visited tourists spot in India. Millions of tourists from all over the world visit Taj Mahal every year.

This iconic symbol of love is located on thebanks of River Yamuna in the city of Old Agra in the northern state ofUttar Pradesh, India. Shah Jahan selected this location to get the mausoleum built because Mumtaz Mahal, his beloved wife used to visit the garden on this site.

Being one of the admired and frequented tourist place, the city and the location is very well connected through all means of transport. The place is easily accessible as the city has three major Railway Stations, which are Agra Cantonment, Raja ki Mandi and Agra City. Agra City Station is considered as the nearest rail head to Taj Mahal as one can reach the place by walking for 10 to 15 minutes. Traverse through Taj Express Highway from Delhi to reach Taj Mahal in a couple of hours.

One can reach straight to the location by bus as it is next to the Bus Station in Agra. All the major cities of India are well connected with the Mughal city of Agra through roadways. But it is at a distance of 6 km from the Agra airport, which is a domestic airport. The nearest international airport to Agra is the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Note:  The nearest landmarks to the beautiful monument are Moti Lal Nehru Park and Golf Links. Auto or cabs from the city center can be hired to reach the location.
