A Boon of 1000 Islands and 300 Lighthouses for Tourism in India!

India will soon get a boon of 1000 Islands and 300 Lighthouses that will take Indian Tourism to a new level. To boost the water infrastructure of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to develop the islands and lighthouses across the country. To develop these “tourist-friendly” islands and lighthouses, the Government of India will seek the nod of Parliament to convert around 101 rivers into waterways. "The government is planning to develop these waterways through the public-private partnership (PPP) mode, which is picking up after a slump," acknowledged Nitin Gadkari, The Road Transport and Highways Minister.   Gadkari added that a sum of Rs 50,000 crore will be allocated to complete this project. While addressing a national conference on Inland Waterways organized by FICCI, in New Delhi he said, “A pact between India and Bangladesh is also likely on transportation of goods through waterways between both nations during the PM's visit to the country."   Most probably, the project of conversion 16 out of 101 waterways will be over by this month. Indian Government is also planning to establish four multi-nodal hubs at Kolkata, Varanasi, Haldia, and Sahebganj. The bill will also include request to construct shipbuilding yards and repair hubs in Andaman & Nicobar, Assam, and Kandla in Gujarat. Modi’s plan to develop water infrastructure of the Country sounds promising and indeed will be a major boost to tourism if implemented. It will also increase the contribution of tourism to country’s gross domestic product (GDP). If you want to explore India - Find here various Tour Packages of India.
