Air India Makes Guinness World Record with Women Crew Flight on International Women’s Day
Air India has completed an around-the-world trip with a flight that was completely run and managed by women. Starting from the check-in staff to the captain, every crew member was female in this flight.
With International Women’s Day, the achievement was right on time. The flight started from New Delhi and landed at San Francisco covering 15,300 km in 15.5 hours. The Al 173- Boeing 777-200 LR was captained by Kshamata Bajpayee. The flight started from Indira Gandhi International airport on 27th of February of 2017 and landed in San Francisco via the Pacific route. On the return journey, it took the Atlantic route and reached Delhi on March 4th of 2017.
According to the officials of the flight, the flight had eight departments including customer care staff, ATC, cockpit crew, doctor, ground staff and others. All the departments were entirely female members.
For this flight, for the first time in the history of Air India, the line operation safety audit was performed by Harpreet A De Singh, female officer. Air India seeks Guinness recognition for this flight and has planned to operate more of such flights throughout the week in favor of International Women’s Day. According to the captain, this act is a symbol that every male dominated career can be effectively and safely carried out by women.

This is not the first time that Air India has taken steps to promote equality. In 2016, it announced a non-stop 17 hour flight to set a record for the longest all-female crew trip. In January 2017, Air India announced women-only seats to avoid sexual harassments.
