First Anniversary of International Yoga Day- A Grand Celebration!

Yoga is an Indian practice to gain physical, mental and spiritual discipline or peace. It drives away stress from mind, body and soul through asanas and meditation, increasing longevity. It is an age old process, prevailing in India more than 5,000 years ago.

India is going to observe the first International Day of Yoga on 21 June, 2015 at Rajpath. A grand celebration will be on the cards under the Ministry of AYUSH. The International Yoga Day will be celebrated across the world on 21 June, since it was declared by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014.

Important Announcements

During the joint press conference on International Day of Yoga, Ministry of AYUSH Shri Shripad Naik announced that a 35 minutes program at Rajpath, Delhi will commence at 6:40 AM on the very day. More than 35000 participants are expected including the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The mass demonstration will include 15 yoga asanas performed by school children, diplomats, government officials, NCC cadets and army personnel.

During the conference, Union Minister of External Affairs, Smt. Sushma Swaraj announced that the Department of Post will come up with Stamp on the International Day of Yoga and the Ministry of Finance will come up with coins valuing Rs. 10 and Rs. 100 on 21st June 2015.

Request to Common Man

Ministry of Ayush requested other States to celebrate International Day of Yoga by organizing similar events and to perform asanas from 7 AM to 7.35 AM. The Ministry has also applied to Guinness Book of World Records for the largest demonstration of Yoga at a single place. He requested the common man to lead a healthy and stress free life by practicising Yoga. He asked everyone to participate in the celebrations of International Yoga Day this June, while supporting Modi’s Mission.

Program Details

 

The program with the tagline, "Live your life to its full potential" and "Apni sambhavnaon ko sambhav karo," will be telecasted live on national and private channels. Yoga gurus from every region of India are expected to attend the program accompanied by their students.

There will be fifteen yogic postures along with stretching and loosening exercises, 2 minute rig veda invocation session and meditation. It will be concluded with a hindi prayer.

People of 176 countries will join the grand event at Rajpath, teams under the supervision of 50 yoga trainers went to foreign countries to provide rehearsals so that they can coordinate well on the event.

Promotion & Information

Actors like Shilpa Shetty, Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor will be asked to perform yoga to promote the event. Beside this, the Government of India is also organizing a conference on "yoga for holistic health" at Vigyan Bhavan on 21 June and 22 June that will include speakers from 18 other countries.
