Kerala is one of the top states when it comes to cleanliness, literacy, tourism, natural beauty, revenue generator, communism and so on. To add to this, the State of Kerala will be the first in the country to be completely elderly and disabled-friendly. The basic infrastructures and facilities of the state is planned to become elderly and disabled friendly. This project of the tourism department has been announced by the state’s tourism minister, Kadakampally Surendran.

The project is named as ‘Barrier-Free Kerala Tourism Project’ and it has successfully completed its first phase. Under this phase, around 70 important tourism spots are turned into elderly and disabled friendly. In addition, the state has implemented the call of ‘Tourism for All’ of UNWTO (United Nations Tourism Organization).
According to the tourism ministry of the state, more than 100 centers are equipped with facilities and amenities to support the visit and stay of differently abled. The ministry is moving towards the mission of converting every tourism center to be disabled and elderly friendly. This includes modified toilets, wheelchairs, ramps and others.

In 2018, the entire state of Kerala was struggling to get back on its feet. The severity of the floods that affected Kerala was massive. Several crores of rupees worth infrastructure and facilities were damaged (For details: visit link). Massive property damage and life damage was seen by the state. However, the state has managed to pull itself out of the mess and has taken initiative in promoting tourism and in increasing the visit of local and international tourists to the land. It is said that the ministry is planning for new milestones by 2020, as per the revised policies. The new policies are forecasted to increase domestic tourism by 50% and international tourism by 100%. One of the main achievements for this policy is the Champions Boat League.
