How to Reach Varkala

Varkala is well connected through airways and its nearest airport is the Thiruvanthapuram Airport, which is located at a distance of 36 km away.

It operates several international and domestic flights from Middle East, South East Asia and major cities of India like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi.

By Rail

Varkala Train Station is the nearest railhead that has access to trains coming from Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. It is situated at a distance of 2 km from the Varkala.

Though it doesn’t have a huge network of trains, still it serves a convenient rail route to connect the city with other parts of Kerala and major cities such as Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Kochi, Bangalore and Mangalore.

Note : Hire a cab or a taxi or get into a bus from the airport to reach your final destination at Varkala.

By Road (Bus)

Varkala is accessible through buses from both Kochi and Trivandrum. You will find KSRTC buses in abundance running within the city from the major bus stands. But buses remain quite crowded and you may not feel comfortable.

By Water

One can cruise across the backwaters to reach Cochin. Travelers from Goa, Mumbai, Colombo, Lakshadweep and Male can reach the city through waterways by boarding a yatch or a ship. Kottayam, Kumarakom and Alleppey have regular boat services to Cochin.

Note: One can hire a bus, taxi and cab or board a train to reach their destination from the Airport / Railway Station.

Two wheelers and four wheelers can be seen running on the roads of Varkala. Autos, taxis, cabs, cars, motorbikes and scooters along with rickshaws are available for the convenient traveling within the city.
