Best Time to Visit Bandhavgarh

Bandhavgarh welcomes guests from October to June, with each season providing its unique flavor of wilderness. The “best time” truly rests on the kind of adventure you’re interested in.

Summer (April – June): In this season, there are the best chances to sight tigers. Auspiciously, tiger, leopard, and other wildlife spotting rates peak as in June. The animals frequent waterholes because of the scorching heat. Although the days are hot, the safaris continue to be exhilarating.

Monsoon (July – September): The park remains closed for safaris during heavy rains, but the landscape turns lush green. Post-monsoon (October), the forest looks fresh, vibrant, and alive, making it perfect for photography.

Winter (November – February): Bandhavgarh is especially wonderful during winter. The day begins with a mist covering and the cool air wrapping the safari adding to the enigma. This period is remarkable for birdwatching due to the arrival of migratory birds, which fill the skies with melodious sounds and colors.

While the months of November to March appear to be the most fit for most visitors, due to the combination of wildlife activity and nice weather, the tiger photography enthusiasts would unquestionably appreciate the summer heat.

Summer Wildlife Encounters

Suggested Tour-

Bandhavgarh’s summer (April to June) might get warm, but is still the best time to go for wildlife safaris, especially for tigers. As much of the wildlife’s usual drinking water dries up, animals are forced to travel to the few remaining lakes, ponds, and waterholes, which in turn become the natural stages for the wildlife.

This is the peak season for tiger sightings—they can be spotted cooling down in muddy pools or lounging under the shade of sal trees. Wildlife photographers and safari guides look forward to summer because the cloudless skies and unshaded terrain increase the chances of sighting and photographing the big cats. Along with tigers, the moister grasslands dry out, making leopards and wild dogs more active in chasing their prey in the dry grasslands.

Herbivores such as spotted deer, sambar, and gaur are seen in herds near the water, giving ample prey to the predators. The activity around the waterholes during this period is like watching a wildlife documentary in real-time.

The heat can be difficult, with daytime temperatures frequently exceeding 40°C; however, early morning and late afternoon wildlife drives make the heat more bearable. The rest of the year Bandhavgarh is known for regular tigress sightings, but summer is truly an unusual season for Bandhavgarh, making it special.

Monsoon Landscape

Popular Tour Packages-

The monsoon season in Bandhavgarh, from July to September, ushers in a unique transformation to the park. The persistent rains put a halt to safari operations, but this wet season is critical for the wellbeing of the park's wildlife. Water sources get replenished, grasslands renew, and herbivores flourish, setting the stage with ample prey for carnivores in the upcoming months. This is the season of rejuvenation for the park.

For visitors, the best part of monsoon arrives with the rains, which is in October and later when the park opens for visitors. The scenery is magical—mist rising from valleys, glistening greenery, and cloudless skies that aid picturesque captures. Birdwatchers get a chance to spot resident birds at their breeding plumage along with butterflies and insects that further enliven the forest.

During Bandhavgarh's monsoon, while the park is closed, the wildlife thrives, keeping our beloved park alive and beautiful the entire year.

Winter Safari Delight

Suggested Tour-

During November through February, the dry season months, Bandhavgarh’s winter gives a completely different feel from the rest of the year—a forest that is serene, misty, and a little quiet as if teasing a great secret. The freezing air, smoke-like clouds, and safari in the early and cool morning are truly special. The frozen breath, thick fog, and thrilling drive through the misty sal forests, not to mention not being sure of what can appear out of the mist, form unforgettable and unique wildlife drives.

During these months, the tigers and leopards are seen walking on warm tracks in the sun to warm themselves. This warm-up also aids in the activity of other animals during the day, providing a higher chance for visitors to spot the big cats even after the early morning safaris.

Migrating birds are perhaps the most true delight for birdwatchers. The Bar-headed geese, storks, and vibrant flycatchers, among others, fill the skies of the forest, making the skies a haven for bird photographers.

The golden sun sets over the meadows and animals wander back to their resting corners. For many wildlife enthusiasts, this season is the most comfortable and enchanting time to visit Bandhavgarh.
