TSOMGO Lake (Changu Lake)

When is the Best Time to go to Tosmogo Lake?

The temperatures differ between 5 and 26 degrees Celsius. The weather is clear from October to December, allowing for a clear, unobstructed view of the surroundings. Between January and March, the entire Lake Changu is frozen over, with temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius.

The History Behind the Lake

Tsomgo Lake is surrounded by numerous historical facts. Buddhist monks were said to be able to predict the future by studying the color of the lake in ancient times. The darker color of the water denotes a more promising or troubling future. At Guru Purnima and Raksha Bandhan, Sikkim's healers, known as Jhakhris, come to this lake to offer prayers and benefit from the healing qualities of the pure lake waters.

Tsomgo means "source of water" in Bhutia, and the source of this lake's water remains a mystery to this day. Legend has it that the area where the lake now stands was once a shed where yaks lived, and the area surrounding the lake was once a tribal village. One night, the tribe's oldest woman had a dream that the village would soon be filled with water, having left no signs of life. She alerted all the villagers, but no one tried to listen to her and dismissed her as insane. After failing to persuade the others to leave, she left the village with her yak, and the village was soon immersed in water. Leaving no trace of any human or animal soul, Sikkimese people now go to Changu Lake to pray to the spirits of the dead.

Tsomgo Lake, also known as Changu Lake, is a spectacular glacial lake in the Indian state of Sikkim. The journey from Delhi to Tsomgo Lake is 1616 kilometers long. The lake is located 2440 kilometers away from Mumbai. Tsomgo Lake is also 2073 and 2365 kilometers away from Hyderabad and Chennai, respectively.

By air

Pakyong Airport (PYG) is the closest airport in the northeast. It is located near Gangtok in the playing town. Sikkim is unquestionably connected to other Indian cities. The lake is located 71 kilometers away.
You can take flights from Netaji Shubash Chandra Bose International airport to reach Pakyong airport. There are flights from Indigo, Air Asia, and Go Air. From Kolkata, it takes about an hour to get to Sikkim. The cost per person ranges from 2000 to 2500 Indian rupees.
Flights from Delhi to Goa usually take 2 hours and 40 minutes. Per person, the price ranges from 4000 to 5000 INR.
