Bentota is a sandy beach that was kept secret in the past, but in recent times few famous restaurants and pubs are opening for visitors.

Bentota beaches have white sand and coconut palms which are growing from the edge of the seas and looks like a postcard of a tropical beach.

You can find up to five endangered species of turtle at this beach that are found here on the undisturbed beach for a long time. Turtles are allowed here to hatch and thrive in this area before they are set for free.

After That, we will move toward the estuary of the Mau Ganga River through a river cruise along the Madu Ganga. This estuary is a complex coastal ecosystem of mangrove plants and an island. This place is among the last tract of pristine mangrove forest in the country.

You will get a glance of money-eating fruits on the trees, a water lizard gliding slowly through the water, a kingfisher waiting for its prey on the banks of the river, and the cormorants.

There are more than 60 islands in this river and lagoon. Some of them are tiny in that they are housing a deserted shrine while others house 250 families and are connected to the mainland with a long footbridge.

The main occupations of the locals here are prawn fishing and producing cinnamon. If you are here in the evening, you will see that fisherman lights lanterns in their canoes to attract the shellfish into their net.
