Tour Itinerary

On your arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, one of our representative from Travelogy India will receive you and you will be transferred directly to Sigiriya.
En route, we will make a visit to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.

Pinnawala -  Located in the northwest part of the town of Kegalle, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is spread over an area of 25 acres. This elephant is situated halfway between Colombo (which is the capital city of Sri Lanka) and Kandy (which is an ancient royal residence). It was established in the year 1975, in order to take care and protection of orphanage elephants from every part of the jungle of Sri Lanka. It is located near the Maha Oya River and it is a major tourist attraction of the country.

 After that, we will make a visit to the Dambulla cave temples. This cave temple is a UNESCO heritage site and it is one of the largest cave temple complexes in Sri Lanka.

Dambulla Rock temple was built during the 1st century BC by King Walagambahu. This temple is a perfect example of Sri Lanka’s ancient architecture and also the most impressive of Sri Lanka cave temples. This temple complex has 5 caves which are spread over an area of 200 sq. meters and you can see the painted walls and ceiling of the caves which are also the largest painting found in the world. This cave has more than 150 images of Buddha and the colossal figure of Buddha which is carved out of rock is the largest among all whose height is around 14 meters.

After that, you will check in at your hotel and your day 1 will come to an end.

Overnight Stay in Sigiriya.


In the early morning, we will head toward Minneriya/Kadulla National Park for a morning safari in a 4 Jeep, as morning is the best time to spot the wild elephant in their natural habitat. If you are a wildlife enthusiast, then Minneriya/Kaudulla national park is the perfect destination for you.

This national park is spread over an area of 8890 hectares and it is mainly for wild elephants. You will see that baby elephants are playing at the lake. There are more than 24 species of mammals who are residing inside the park, elephants, leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, wild buffalo, purple-faced lead monkeys, mongoose, porcupines, and Indian pangolin are major attractions of this park. This park is also known for its bird species as it has more than 170 species of bird.

After that, we will get back to the hotel for having breakfast.

Afternoon, we will make a visit to the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress (which is another UNESCO world heritage site) as this is the best place to capture the sunset from the summit. This fortress was built from 477 AD to 495 AD by King Kasayapa. The king built this fort over the top of the rock and decorated its side with colorful frescoes. This fortress is one of the many wonders of the world due to the amazing architecture and technology which has been used here.

In the evening time, you can spend your time walking around and enjoying the surrounding nature.
 

Overnight stay in Sigiriya.


On Day 3, after having breakfast, we will drive toward Kandy City. This city is set on a plateau and surrounded by mountains. Kandy is home to a tea plantation and rainforest. Kandy is also known for its Buddhist sites including the temple of Tooth Relic.

En route, we will make a visit to Spice Garden where you got a chance to know about Sri Lankan Spices.

Check-in at your hotel. 

Afternoon, we will make a visit to the Temple of Tooth Relic (which is another UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE)

Temple of the Tooth Relic: OPTIONAL VISIT – US $ 10 net per person

A Buddhist temple, Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is located in the city of Kandy. This temple is situated inside the royal palace complex of the former kingdom of Kandy. This complex houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. From ancient times, this relic has played an important role in the governance and politics of Sri Lanka because it is believed that one who holds the relic will hold the country. Kandy was also the last capital of Sri Lankan kings and it is also a UNESCO world heritage site.

In the evening, you can explore the City center by walking and engaging yourself in cultural dance shows and arts which are inspired by Sri Lankan tradition.

Overnight stay in Kandy.


While going through coconut palms, cascading waterfalls, and mountains, we will finally arrive at the world-famous beach of Sri Lanka. Bentota is a beautiful sandy beach that was an offbeat location in the past and was known by very few travelers, but in recent times, few restaurants and pubs are opened which has boosted tourism here.

This mesmerizing white sandy beach along with coconut palms which are growing right from the edge of the sea make this place an imitation of a postcard.

After that, we will get back to the hotel, where you can spend the rest of your time having a cocktail or just relaxing on the beach.

Overnight stay in Bentota.


On Day 5, after having our breakfast, we will head toward Turtle Hatchery Farm. This hatchery farm is located at Bentota Beach which is another important tourist attraction in the city. Here you can find up to five species of turtles that are endangered and kept visiting this beach for a long time. The turtles are allowed here to hatch and thrive before they are set free.
There is an estuary nearby named Madu Ganga which is a coastal ecosystem of mangroves and islands. You can reach here by river cruise and this place is one of the last tracts of pristine mangrove forest in Sri Lanka.

This boat journey will provide you with one of the most mesmerizing journeys of the trip where you can see hundreds of species of plants and animals.

You can see monkeys eating fruits and roaming from one tree to another, water monitors lizards gliding through the water, and kingfishers waiting patiently on the banks of the river for prey. Cormorants and egrets are other species that are found here.

There are about 60 + islands in the river starting from tiny ones which are deserted and hardly have anything and some of them are big enough which are houses more than 250 families. These islands are connected to the mainland through a very long footbridge.

The main occupation of the local inhabitants who are residing here is fishing and growing cardamom. If you are here in the evening, you will get a chance to see fishermen catching fish through traps by lighting the lantern in order to attract the shellfish.

Overnight stay in Bentota.


This is the 6th and the last day of your trip. After having breakfast, we will head toward Colombo which is the capital city of Sri Lanka.

This city has a number of shopping centers.

Colombo is the trade and commercial capital that acts as a gateway to the Orient. This is also the largest city of Sri Lanka which is located on the west coast of the country. You can witness the cultures, religions, and ancients tradition along with the foreign influence on them. In the 16th century, when foreign traders and settlers such as Arab, Portuguese Dutch, and British came here, they not only settle here but also made their churches and monuments which are a fine example of British architecture.

You will see the amalgamation of religions, costumes, food, and language which are absorbed beautifully into the speech of Sri Lankan today.

This capital city is a fascinating one with a mixture of its past and present, east and west along with a unique charm of its own. Colombo has plenty of restaurants that offer cuisine from every country of the world. Be it local foods or the Chinese, Japanese, or Continental, you will get everything here. This place is home to some of the best shopping centres in the world.

By this, your trip come to an end and one of our team members will drop you at the airport where you can catch your departure flight.
