The Dagala Thousand Lake Trek is one of the best high altitude treks in Bhutan. This trek is in the bucket list of every adrenaline junkie. Taking you through picturesque landscapes, high altitude mountains peaks, serene lakes, yak pasture grounds, blooming wildflowers, rare hilly plants and trees, this trek leaves you with many unforgettable memories. The time between September to November is considered best for this trek.

Tour Itinerary

After completing immigration formalities and baggage collection, get greeted by our representative. Your vacation will start with a drive to the capital town of Bhutan- Thimphu.

Check in to your hotel in Thimpu. Later drive to Thimpu sightseeing if time permits:

Memorial Chorten - The stupa honoring Bhutan's third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, who is popularly regarded as Father of modern Bhutan.

Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang) - The famous Buddha Point offers a beautiful overview of the Thimpu Valley. It is the largest Buddha statue in the country.

Tashichho Dzong - the “fortress of the glorious religion”. This ancient Dzong is an administrative place of Thimpu housing royal throne room and offices of kings and ministries.

Back to hotel Overnight stay at Thimphu.


After breakfast, check out from the hotel and you will be driven to the starting point of the trek “Genekha Village”. The trek starts by crossing a river to climb on to a rock platform situated at a height of 3350 m. The trail is filled will lush green fields and vegetation.

The trek continues to reach your campsite at Gur. Gur is popular for pasturing grounds of yaks.

Overnight stay in camp Gur at 3290 m.


Day 3 covers your trek from Gur to Labatama through ridges and mountains amidst beautiful wild flowers and meadows. Your first stoppage will be at Pagalabtsa pass situated at 4250 m.

Pagalabtsa pass offers the most spectacular views of the Kanchenjunga peak and other Bhutanese Himalayan peaks. Descending from the pass one will view whole Dagala range meadows and yak herders camp.

Enjoy sumptuous lunch at nearby yak herder’s camp. Continue the trek to reach the Utsho Lake via Labatama Valley. Utsho lake is popular for being home to thousands of freshwater fish the “golden trouts”.

Overnight stay at the camp beside the lake at 4100m.


Trek continues to reach and explore some popular Dagala lakes. Sertsho and Jagetsho Lakes separated by a small ridge are popular for trouts fishing.

Lunch at camp. Summit with spectacular view around can be memorable experience.

Return to your camp and overnight stay.


The trail continues to reach a saddle at a height of 4520 m towards DalaTsho. Enjoy majestic views of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Jumolhari, Jitchu Drake, Tshering Gang, Khangbum, Masang Gang, Tshenda Gang and Gangche Ta.

Descend from the saddle passing some yak herder huts to Docha Chu. You follow the river for a while, but stay higher up on the slope to reach Pankha with some ups and downs on the way.

Camp at Pankha at 4000m.


Today, your trek will lead you to Talakha. Talakha is home to numerous mountain passes and the popular Talakha Monastery. While on the trek, you will set your feet on numerous passes providing you with an opportunity to gaze at the magnificent sight of green landscapes and mountain peaks.

Continue your trek to reach Talakha Monastery. Walk back towards the road at Tamngang to see your driver and cab waiting.

Drive back to Paro. On arrival, check into hotel. Overnight stay at Paro.


After breakfast, a road excursion will await your presence to the famous Taktshang Monastery or Tiger’s Nest. The Monastery clings to a cliff, which is 3120 meters above the Paro valley floor. The whole trail is filled hill magnificent views of hills and mountains coupled with lush greeneries.

Later, you will be driven to Ta Dzong, the home to the National Museum of Bhutan. You will be amazed at the exhibits of antique thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons, armor, household objects, and other historic artifacts.

Next awaits a short walk to visit Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong), which is home to a beautiful gallery with illustrations of Buddhist lore.

Overnight at the hotel in Paro.


After breakfast, you will be driven to the airport to depart from Paro. Our representative will help you with all the formalities to provide you a hassle free experience.
