The state of Kerala is situated on the Malabar Coast of India. As per ancient history, the entire state of Kerala was besieged by Sea by the Chera King Senkuttuvan, which was recovered by the axe-wielding warrior sage Parasurama. From the beginning of the Christian era, Kerala has been ruled by many influential empires like the Sanghams, Kulasekara EEmpire, Chola and Pandya Kingdoms till the European arrivals. After Independence, Travancore and Kochi were merged to form Travancore-Cochin. In 1956, Kasargod, Malabar, and Travancore-Cochin were merged to form Kerala.

Kerala’s lush green vegetation is filled with exotic herbs and spices, which couldn’t be cultivated anywhere else in the country. Kerala’s spices have been a major part of export trade since 3000 BCE. The Western Ghats mountain chain of Kerala is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These chain forests are considered older than the Himalayas. Its unique geographical features consisting of tranquil beaches, emerald backwaters, serene hill stations, exotic wildlife, luxuriant vegetation, luxuriant mountain ranges are nowhere to be found.

Kerala has a long history of enriched traditions and Art & Culture. Its culture is a beautiful fusion of Aryan and Dravidian cultures. Festivals and performing arts form an important part of Kerala’s culture. Some of the important festivals of the state are Onam, Pooram, Attukal Pongala, etc. Dance forms like Kathakali, Koodiyattom, Thullal are worldwide popular.
