Yes, you can visit Andaman by cruise. The major Indian cities from where you can embark on your cruise journey to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are Kolkata, Chennai, and Vishakhapatnam. The minimum cruise fare for a bunk class seat starts from around INR 2600, INR 7000 for a second class cabin, around INR 9000 for a 1st class cabin, and over INR 10000 for a deluxe cabin. The cruise journey takes around 50-60 hours to reach Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

  • The best way to reach is by flight. The Indian cities Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata have flights to Veer Savarkar Airport in Port Blair. If you are flying from abroad, you can fly to one of these cities and board a flight to Port Blair. It will only take a couple of hours to reach Port Blair depending on the origin city.

The safest route to travel to Andaman is undoubtedly by air. Because it is comfortable and less time-consuming. The Port Blair airport is just at a distance of 31km from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. However, you have to be cautious of the dates you book your tickets for. Monsoons are recommended to be avoided. Most flights get cancelled or delayed during this season due to bad weather conditions.

Andaman had superb resorts and hotels with world-class hospitality. Hence, you should be worried about where to stay, as both places are good. However, based on the duration of your trip, you can plan your stay in both these places. Port Blair is near to all the major tourist spots. You can stay 2-3 days in Port Blair for sightseeing and then head to Havelock and stay 2 days there to explore the Island. Havelock itself needs around 2 days for exploring. Havelock is for relaxation and adventure activities. If you have very few days in hand, then stay at Port Blair and plan a one-day trip to Havelock.
Travelling by ship is comparatively less safe. Despite being very time-consuming, it might not be quite comfortable unless you book a deluxe cabin. This again puts a financial pressure on you unless you are rich. Then there are unexpected weather conditions, which can delay your journey. Ships do not sail unless the weather gets completely favorable. There is no guaranty on how long the weather might take to improve. This could severely affect all your travel plans.
