Mount Abu Summer Festival 2024 - A Complete Guide

Right before monsoon, the entire hill town of Mount Abu gets a festive makeover with Mount Abu summer festival. This festival brings the whole city together with cultural activities, feasts and colorful entertainment. The main purpose of this festival is to showcase all the exotic cultural activities of the land.

History of Mount Abu Summer Festival

Mount Abu has been linked to several mythologies and legend stories. It is said that 330 million demi-gods of Hinduism used to visit this hill to perform yagna. Summer is the prime tourism season. By the end of summer, the land conducts all extravaganza to attract tourists, just like numerous other hill stations around the country. The starting day of this festival falls on Buddha Poornima, which adds a religious value to the festival and celebration.

Dates of Mount Abu Summer Festival

Mount Abu Summer Festival will be celebrated on 12th to 13th May, 2024.

How is Mount Abu Summer Festival Celebrated?

On day one, the celebration starts with traditional ballad singing. A grand procession starts from RTDC Hotel Shikhar. Later, the people gather closer to Nakki Lake to watching cultural performances of Rajasthani and Gujarati folk dance and music.

On day two and three, several local competitions and games will be conducted like band show, horse racing, skating race, Ghoomar dance, Panihari matka race, tug of war and others. The most important celebration of all is the Nakki Jheel boat race.

Every night, the celebration includes Shaam-E-Qawwali, a traditional music concert. By the end of the celebration, fireworks color the sky.

There is no specific entry fee for the festival. Each activity of the celebration has its own ticket cost and timing. The festival starts early in the morning and ends by night. However, specific celebrations, games and activities have their own timing and day of activity.

How to Reach Mount Abu?

The only hill station of Rajasthan, Mount Abu is located closer to the southern region of Udaipur. The nearest airport to Mount Abu is located in Udaipur, which is 185 km away from the hill station. The nearest railway station is Abu Road, which is located 29 km away from the hill station. You can find buses and cabs from airport and railway station to the hill station.

From the railway station, it would take two hours to drive to Mount Abu. If you are choosing rails, you can find direct trains from many major cities of Rajasthan to Mount Abu like Udaipur, Jodhpur and others.

If you are in a different state, it is better to fly to Udaipur and then find road or rail transportation to reach Mount Abu. Domestic flights to Udaipur can be found frequently from various major cities and states of the country.

The festival is celebrated every summer during the month of May or June. The festival is celebrated for three days. The exact day of the festival falls on Buddha Poornima, which changes according to the lunar calendar.
