Colva is a beautiful beach in the village of Salcete in South Goa. A very popular tourist destination, it is known for its beaches, food, pubs and bars. It is also known for its Portugal significance with a number of buildings which speak of history, elegance and architecture. Extending from Bogmalo beach to Cabo de Rama beach; its a beach filled with coconut reefs lined out.
As such there is not a huge local market in Colva. Still, there are nearby markets, which are good enough to shop for local dresses, designer jewellery, jute stuff, shoes, souveniers, old books – all at reasonable prices. The best stuff can be found at Margoas Municipal market, Nagoa market and Queen Nagar Market. Yet it is a good place for eating. A number of international brand food joints thrive here.
Margao is the nearest railway station just 7 kilometers away. It takes only 15 minutes from the station to reach the beach. Or hire a taxi to reach the beach. Buses too run on the same route. It is best to take pre – paid taxis as it is a avoid necessary haggle. Or ask your tour operator to guide you. It takes around an hour to reach Colva from Panjim – the Capital of Goa.
Colva the Queen of Beaches is surrounded by quite developed area. It is filled with brands like Mickey’s Multi – cuisine. Kentuckee, Costa Coffee, Leda Lounge, KFC – all of which are quite known ones. It is one of the best places to have your tummy’s filled with names like Harry’s Bar, Furtado’s Shack, Club Margarita and many more.
This white washed place is filled with tourists, so keep an eye on your belongings and cash. Carry less cash and use credit and pay cards wherever possible. Always keep an eye on your kids and do not let them go away from your sight. Always be in touch with your tour operator. Hire a bike to get the best view of Colva beach and nearby attractions. You can also hire a bike for hours, which is generally rented out for hours a day. The rates for these bikes differ as per the season.
The Portugal buildings, villas located in Portuguese area are a major tourist attraction. Tourists come here and get photo clicked in this part of Colva. This location is known for “Mundanca” or change of air for tourists coming from Portugal. The Colva Church, locally called Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Merces, built in 1630 is a major tourist attraction. This beach is otherwise well – known for evening walks, shopping and food rather than tourist destinations.
