To reach Mongar one crosses one of the most beautiful Himalayan crossing at a height of 4000 meters called Thrumshing La pass. Located on a hill, filled with lush greenery and high mountains, Mongar is another beautiful destination of Bhutan.
Established in the year 1930, this Dzong has got four lhakhangs in the utse, including goenkhang and a sangay lhakhang. It has got 2 beautiful entrances which shimmering yellow all around its walls. Each year in the month of November a week long Mongar tsechu is held here.
The translation of this means “peak without enemy” and it is also one of the most important monasteries of eastern Bhutan. The annual festival which is held every year on the 10th day of Bhutanese calendar called Drametse Ngacham ; calls for hundreds of visitors each year.
Located just 15 kms from the main town of Mongar, this monastery was established by Lama Sangdag. It has got a good collection of spiritual treasures and other objects of Buddhist significance.
It’s a 3 hours drive from Mongar Valley. For the very fact that it’s quite isolated, it has got the most beautiful landscapes Bhutan has. A painters and photographers heaven its high cliffs, dense forests and picturesque surroundings makes it a must stay – in destinations of Bhutan. Spend at least 2 days here if you like to spend some time amongst nature. The ancestral home of royal dynasty its also famous for its weavers and textiles.
