The pilgrimage tour of Chardham covers Yamunotri Dham, Gangotri Dham, Kedarnath Dham, and finally, the Badrinath Dham. These four temples are considered as abodes of Gods and are believed to be the path towards salvation.
Although these four temples are the main attractions of the yatra, there are numerous sites to cover on the route of Chardham circuit.
List of Places to Visit During Chardham Yatra
1. Haridwar
Haridwar is one of the major starting points for Chardham yatra. Haridwar has River Ganges flowing through the region, which makes the place, an important sacred destination. Harki Paurighat of Haridwar is the prime destination for pilgrims. At the evening, Ganga Aarti takes place in this ghat, which is a very sacred ritual performed to Ganges.

2. Rishikesh

3. Barkot
Barkot is a small region, which is famous for mountain valleys, rugged routes, and pristine high-altitude climate. Visit Kempty Falls before you start your journey from Barkot. If you are visiting Barkot, you would be choosing the route covering Dehradun and Mussoorie to reach Barkot.
Top destinations to cover here are Robber’s Cave, Shaastradhara, Lachchiwala, and others. Moreover, Dehradun and Mussoorie are famous summer escapades filled with natural beauties and outdoor activities.
4. Yamunotri Dham
Hanuman Chatti is one of the prime attractions closer to Yamunotri. This region is famous for Hanuman temple, Dodi Tal, and Darwa Top. Some pilgrims start trekking from Hanuman Chatti. You will be reaching Janki Chatti by any road transportation and from there; you will be hiking towards the temple for six hours.
On the route, you will be stopping at numerous kunds (natural hot water springs), Divya Shila, and others. Shani Dev temple, closer to Janki Chatti is a famous shrine on this route. Also, visit the Kharsali village, where the main deity of Yamunotri temple will be shifted during winter.
The main destination of Yamunotri is the Yamunotri Dham and the river Yamuna. Pilgrims take a holy dip in the river and visit the temple to pray.

5. Uttarkashi
Uttarkashi is a small temple town located at a height of 1158m. The name of the town has ‘kashi’ in it, as the main deity of Kashi Vishwanath Temple of Varanasi was brought to Vishwanath Temple of Uttarkashi when the Kashi temple was attacked by Aurangazeb.
Today, Vishwanath Temple of Uttarkashi is a very famous pilgrimage destination. Apart from this, you can also find other sites to cover like Bhairav Temple, Shakti Devi Shrine, and others.
Apart from Uttarkashi, you will find other destinations like Bhairon Ghati, Mukhbha village, Dharali, Harsil, and Gangnani, on the route towards Gangotri Dham.
6. Gangotri Dham
The main attraction of Gangotri Dham is the Ganges Temple and the Bhagirati River, which joins with Alaknanda River to form River Ganges. The glacier from which the Ganges starts is an important attraction for adventure trekkers.
You can also find a submerged Shivling in this region, which is said to be the place where Lord Shiva stopped River Ganges in his locks to slow down the flow.

7. Guptkashi
When Pandava brothers (Mahabharata) were seeking salvation for the crimes they committed during war, they sought the blessings and forgiveness of Lord Shiva.
However, Lord Shiva kept running away from them. According to mythology, Lord Shiva took the shape of a bull will running and parts of his body were scattered as he ran. Every spot where his body part hit the ground is a shrine.
The place where he hid from Pandavas is Guptkashi. This is a beautiful small town, where you can find a couple of Shiva temples (ManikarnikaKund, Ardhnarishwar temple), and the famous Tehri Dam.
8. Sonprayag
This is an aesthetically pleasing destination to explore Triyugi Village, Triyuginarayan temple, and the river bank where River Mandakini meets with River Basuki.

9. Gaurikund
The Parvati Devi temple and Gauri Kund (water spring) are the prime attractions here. From Gaurikund, the intensive trekking route towards Kedarnath starts.
At the end of the trail, you will be visiting Kedarnath temple, a famous jyotirlinga temple and the third destination of Chardham yatra.
10. Rudraprayag
On the return journey from Kedarnath to Gaurikund, you will find Rudraprayag. This is the place where River Alaknanda and Mandakini join. The view of the rivers converging is a beautiful sight.
Apart from this, you can find lakes, temples, and glaciers in this region.
11. Chopta
This hill destination is famous for adventure activities like rappelling, mountain climbing, camping, and others. Apart from adventure activities, you can find other attractions like Gopinath temple, Tungnath temple, and Chandrashila Peak.
12. Badrinath
The route towards Badrinath has many attractions like Vishnuprayag, Pandukeshwar, Hanuman Chatti, and others. The last destination in the circuit is Badrinath. The Badrinath temple and Tapt Kund are the prime attractions of this region.
