One of the well known monuments of Mumbai is the Gateway of India, specially designed to be noticed at the first instance when the visitors approach the city by boat. The Gateway of India was built by the British during their rule over India. The power and majesty of the British Empire was symbolized through this structure.
It is a popular place to visit in Colaba (South Mumbai) on the coast of Arabian Sea and opposite to the Taj Palace. It is the remarkable landmark of Mumbai City. The beautifully designed and strong pillars of this monument remind us about the sacrifices of our countrymen and also about the colonial rule.
The Gateway is made using both Hindu and Muslim architectural styles. Being considered as the Taj Mahal of Mumbai, the Gateway of India is one of the top attractions of Mumbai.
